Mister Rogers Goes to Washington - May 1, 1969

Sunday, May 1 marked the 47th anniversary of the day Mister Rogers Went to Washington to address Congress on the need to support a then new idea -- national public television.  In 1969, the Nixon Administration had lobbied to cut funding in half. Fred Rogers spoke from his heart as he made his case to protect the needs of young children. Watch how his sincerity impacted the gruff chairman, Senator Pastore from Rhode Island.

This is the first time we present his full address. It is seven minutes long, but we felt many of you will want to hear his all of his words.
